Brief description

The course strives to cover child abuse in its entirety. The main goal is for professionals to recognize the concept, forms and symptoms of abuse and its effects on the children who have become victims. In addition, the course tries to make them aware of their role in the treatment of children who have suffered from child abuse, regardless of their field of operation, and let them understand the motives of the perpetration and also the necessity of the appropriate treatment of the abuser. In the course of the program, the participants have the opportunity to develop their skills, leading them to successfully recognize child abuse, its progression and the appropriate intervention and provision of help.

The 32-hour course lasts four days, after which the participants receive a certificate, and in the personal care worker training systems we confirm 40 points (the trainig is accredited).

The education is offered in group form (max. 24 persons) namely workshops and seminars.

The training tries to raise awareness about abuse. The first and the second block focuses on the recognition and treatment of the symptoms, the third block is already working on the incorporation of the new knowledge. This is followed by the development of skills. During this part process analysis and enhancing the quality of communication is taught by using role-playing games.

 

The participation in the training costs 40.000 HUF.



Main achievements

The main topics to be processed are:

•        causes leading to abuse;

•        signs and symptoms of physical, emotional/psychological or sexual abuse and neglection;

•        the impact of abuse on the child/family/community;

•        abused children’s behavior and conduct specialties;

•        essential services in the helping of abused children/family;

•        tips about what you can do to protect the child from further abuse;

•        making and maintaining contact with the victims and the abuser as well;

•        determining process analysis and help-strategies in the case of supporting people, who suffered from violence.

The 1st block: reviewing the types of abuse: physical abuse (signs and symptoms), emotional abuse (signs and symptoms), neglect (signs and symptoms), and sexual abuse (signs and symptoms). To summarize the knowledge, participants have to write a case-study on the basis of their own field of specialty. Duration: 8 hours (7 hours of theory, 1 hour of practice). Methods: Lecture and group work, facilited discussion.

During this session of the training are identified the operating, retirementing arrangements and the available prevention programs. Duration: 8 hours (7 hours of theory, 1 hour of practice). Methods: Lecture and group work, facilited discussion.

The theme of the 3rd block is the signing obligation and the process of taking a child under protection. The session reviews the entry oppurtunities and the methods used as well. Knowledge transfer is made in the form of role-playing. This type of education shows the protocol of managing cases. Duration: 8 hours (6 hours of theory, 2 hours of practice). Methods: Lecture and group work, facilited discussion.

The 4th block focuses on the participant’s own specialty. What can we do for abused children in our area/field? In this session participants practice how to make and maintain contact with abused children and with the abuser as well. At the end of the training prevention plans are made, participants have to write a final thesis, and the training is evaluated also. Duration: 8 hours (2 hours of theory, 6 hours of practice). Methods: Group work, role-playing, interview techniques, facilitation techniques.

 


Effectiveness

Competencies aquired during the training: the project is designed to improve participant’s skills about effective recognition of child abuse and to help them to be able to choose the most adequate intervention or assistance form for the victims.

 



Evaluation

At the end of the training participants have to write a final thesis, which focuses on the amount of knowledge acquired.

 

The terms of the certificate on training:

•        the rate of absenteeism does not go over 10 per cent of the total number of hours,

•        individual and group work carried out during the training,

•        writing the final thesis.
