Brief descriptionSocial competence refers to an individual's ability to combine thinking, feeling and behaviour to achieve social tasks and outcomes. Very different social competencies are required in different contexts. In teh sports setting, social competencies have been found to be as important as technical and athletic skills for successful coaching.Coaches will lead with self-awareness, self-discipline, motivation, empathy, and social skill create a team environment that promotes trust, confidence, enjoyment, and the maximum effort by their athletes. The EDUCO Handbook is aimed at organisations, local authorities, sports clubs, NGOs, parents' associations and anyone who, recognising the social value of sports and the central figure of sports educator, may wish to replicate a successful training experience with sports coaches who work with young people. |
Main achievementsThe EDOCO training package is a complete, replicable, unique, specific package which delivers a training course aimed at sports educators, but also applicable for any educator working with children and adolescence, with the purpose of equipping them with social competencies.The package consists of: 1. Methodology (Describing active methods in education, such as Authobiography, Action Learning Group, Games and simulations) 2. Guidelines for trainers and course organisers 3. EDUCO training modules: a. Learning styles b. Diversity c. Inclusion/Exclusion d. Intercultural communication e. Conflict management f. Case studies g. Giving and receiving feedback h. Reflective practice i. Communicating with parents j. Problem solving 4. Project documentation 5. Summary report of pilot training programme 6. Support materials 7.
